The FMBC Worship Team seeks to glorify and worship God through music and song. This blog is our attempt to organize and facilitate our efforts towards that purpose. With a collective spirit of humility and brokenness we desperately and passionately dedicate our God-given talents and abilities to the only one worthy of them—God. He is our audience of ONE.
The concept of “worship” is a complex one. However, we have founded our ministry on a few focused ideas and principles:
First, and most importantly, God is central to everything we do. He is the only One great enough and worthy enough to deserve our praise. He is why we sing. He is why we make music. Nehemiah 9:5-6 describes it this way: “Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you”
Second, as Christians and as members of FMBC Bellflower, we hope to live in worship so that our lives reflect God’s glory and saving grace. And though we fail constantly, we strive to continually find our way back to God’s grace and forgiveness. We know that the Gospel message is one of hope—hope for redemption and hope for salvation through Jesus Christ our Savior. Worship, then, becomes our cry to God for His help in our times of need and tragedy. It becomes our expression of gratitude for His forgiveness and compassion. It becomes our evangelical message of the forgiveness and freedom that come with believing in God and His son, Jesus Christ. Psalm 86:12-13 puts it this way: “I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.”
Finally, as worship leaders, we serve God and His church though our efforts in the worship ministry. It is our responsibility to connect the congregation to the heart of God with music, and we accept that responsibility with humility and dedication. Psalm 33:3 offers this: “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” Through practice and hard work we aspire to offer the FMBC Church family a worship service that facilitates God’s message of faith, hope, and love—faith in the power of God and His gospel, hope in the redemption of our sins through Christ’s sacrifice, and love that inspired Him to save us from our innate sin nature.
It is our prayer that this blog will augment your ability to both worship God and lead His people in worship by providing the tools and resources to make that happen. We leave you with a scripture, Psalm 95:1-3: “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.”
